Here are all the rules for role-playing. Please read ALL of them, and follow them all. They are here to make your role-playing more enjoyable -- if everyone follows them, everyone has fun! Rules with an asterix (*) after them are bannable offenses -- you commit one of these, you get banned.
- Be Unique: Create your own character -- do not copy someone else's. All characters must be unique -- I do not want to see anyone playing as an actual character from the books or movies!
- Accuracy: We strive for accuracy here -- always make your posts 100% accurate with the books. If it's a point that the books and movies clash, go with the book. If you don't know, research it. For the same reason (accuracy), no one is allowed to role-play royalty. For each and every region I've outlined, there's already a ruling family, usually complete with lineage, an heir, and a personality. Now, if you can make it work and still keep accuracy . . . I have no problem with that.
- Remember the time period we're talking about here, and try and stay by it.
- Do not join a thread that is already more than a page long, unless you have been invited to by one of the participating members. After the first page or two, the thread takes on a definite feel -- exactly what direction it's going in. Another person joining on the ninth page destroys that. Also, if the title says specifically "so-and so only", that means they want to role-play with so-and-so, and with only so-and-so! If you're not so-and-so, don't join. Even if it is the first page.
- (*) Do not badmouth anyone else or their character! A little fun never hurt anyone, especially if it makes sense (your Dwarf character is poking a little fun at someone else's Elf character, and they're okay with it). If someone's feelings get hurt, though, it's gone too far. On the other hand, if you're the one with the Elf character in the above example, don't be oversensitive.
- Post your character's profile under Character Profiles before role-playing. This lets people know who your character is. Please post in a concise manner -- no prose! If you want to tell people about your character's horrible experience when their village got raided when they were a child, that's what the Fan-fic section is for.
- (*) Do not infringe on anyone's copyright! This will get you banned fast enough to make your head spin.
- (*) Keep it PG-13. No one under 13 is allowed to join (Proboard's rules, not mine) anyway. So, kissing, fighting, innuendos, etc. are fine. Steamy romance novels, pornographic images (in signatures, avatars, or in the post itself), or very violent fight scenes aren't.
- (*) Do not kill off another person's character without their permission.
- (*) No godmoding! 'Godmoding' means playing as someone else's character.
- No Mary-Sues! A "Mary-Sue" is a character that is perfect in every way. That's no fun, now is it? For more information, visit this link.
- (*) Keep characters to a minimum. I'm not going to say a specific number, just don't make too many so you can't keep up with them all.
- Visual aids: Please provide a picture of some sort (like a doll) of your character(s) in your sig. This allows us to know what they look like. I'm not going to ban anyone just because they don't have one -- it's just nice!
- We speak English, how about you?: This is an English forum -- let's post using correct spelling, good grammar, complete sentences, etc. Also, it's great if you include a word or two from a Tolkien language (makes your role-playing more authentic), but please include an English translation as well in brachets: { and }.
