Unlike in our world, most of the people in Middle-earth have names that actually mean something in their language. It would be nice if you could find a name that has meaning for your character, as well. Here are some links to help you: CoE's Elvish name generator: An enormous database in Sindarin, you can search either by "real" name or meaning. FYI, most Men also have names in Sindarin. Oh, and all Elves here will have Sindarin names as well. Only Elves in Valinor (the "Undying Lands" to the West) have names in Quenya! CoE's Rohirric name generator: for Men from Rohan, as well as Dwarves (who adopt "Mannish" names). Again, search by "real" name or meaning. Shadow of the Ring's Hobbit Name Generator: A Hobbit name generator. No meanings (do Hobbit names mean anything, anyway?) Barrow Down's Multi-Named Generator: Complete with Elf, Hobbit, Dwarf, and Orc. No meanings, though, so not recommended for Elvish and Dwarf. Khûzdul Wordlist: not a name generator at all, but a list of words in Khûzdul, or Dwarvish. So, at least you can name your Dwarf something out of their language, even if it isn't a proper name ... Do you know of a generator not listed here? PM me and I'll put it up!

Two other name generators can be found at these places: Elvish Name GeneratorHobbit Name GeneratorEdited by Caitlin: Yes, but neither give meanings. Which is fine for Hobbit, not for Elf. Actually, the names given for Elf are complete nonsense, gibberish. Not recommended, especially because the CoE's Elvish name generator is easy to use and give you names with meaning.
