Adge and I will be going on an extended vacation with our family, to New York and Quebec. We'll be back around Sep. 10 - 11 (Dad wants to get back before the 11th, in case they go paranoid and start closing roads down, but that means over 12 hours of driving!). Don't worry -- the resort we're staying at has Internet access, so I will be posting, just not as frequently! Have a fun time role-playing while we're gone!

Yes, they did. Oh, well. Little bit of rain by now ... We saw Niagara Falls today. A lot smaller than I expected, and a lot more majestic. Although that legend of the maiden of the mist was interesting ... Tomorrow I'll be on, 'cause mom and dad go to see a football game, but not sure after that. See you at least when I get home on the 10th!

Well, I liked it. Although how they can sleep at night, calling themselves an 'I-MAX', I don't know. It's just a big screen! Meh. Oh, well. Customs was interesting. Hehe, our first time ever going through. When the dude (who was super nice, the Canadian customs people are a lot nicer than the American customs people) asked my dad (who was driving) where we're from, he said Virginia. When he asked what his citizenship was, he said UVA, instead of USA, which stands for the University of Virginia, which is the local college in Charlottesville. It was hilarious! The guy looked at him, like, wtf?!?
Excuse me if this doesn't make sense. I'm very tired. For three nights, now, I've shared a (small) double bed with my sister, so we're both rather spacey.
Professional interest: saw a big-headed ant for the first time today. Woo-hoo! Now I know what they look like!

Well, I'm back! I had a great time! We only had dial-up in our room in Québec, and we couldn't get even that to work, so this is the first time I've been online in awhile. Québec was almost surreal. It was odd, looking at a sign on a shop, and thinking, I have no idea what that means. And if you overheard two people talking in the market (excuse me, marché) you had no clue what they were talking about. I had expected it to be mostly French, with a little English for the tourist idiots -- it was almost all French! We had a fun time when our exit came up on the interstate, and I had to remember which was east -- est or ouest. Fortunately, I remembered correctly -- which is why we are not now still in Ottowa. I was the only one who knew how to say more than 'hello' and 'thanks' in French. But Québec is beautiful! We stayed in a little town called L'anse-Saint-Jean, or something like that, right on the Saguenay Fjord. The third longest in the world, btw. And it was breathtaking! The best part, though, was when we went to a town called Tadoussac, and went whale-watching. We saw several belugas, a few grey seals, and even a minke whale! It was so cool! We had fun. We also went on some hikes, but generally just did a lot of sight-seeing. Not much to do in the room -- out of the 20 or 30 so channels we got on TV, only three were in English. (fyi, Crocodile Hunter in French is interesting) And our room was pretty small, and noisy! We stayed at a resort, called Le Gîte du Fjord, which had a full kitchen, a dining room, and two bedrooms. But the second anyone so much as shifted in bed, the entire house heard it. Which made sleeping interesting -- especially when you want to lay down for a nap, and everyone else wants to watch tv and talk loud. Or (as happened one morning) when your mother can't sleep, and so decides to get up and get a shower at 6:00 AM. But we had fun, and all-in-all it was a good trip. I'm just happy to be back where people speak English! Oh, and Marillawen, Montréal is beautiful -- what little we saw of it. We got lost on the way back, and got stuck in 5:00 traffic in downtown Montréal, so got a good look at it for the ten or so blocks it took us to find our way back to the interstate. And, Québec is wonderful and all, but the people drive like idiots. Sorry, no offense.
