Lairael gazed at the pages of rather thin book, not taking in what she was reading. Well, she wasn't even reading! She simply stared at the words, the characters now getting mushed and blurred together. To a newcomer she would have looked aborbed in the book.
On her left hand, her long fingers were combing themselves through her thick mess of brown curls that were tumbling out of a bun. One leg was folded neatly under her, and the other was swinging back and forth, hanging off of the divan.

Ithilwen stifled a yawn, walking into the Library. She had forgotten how exausting a newborn could be. <Oh, hello!> she said, seeing the newcomer. <I don't believe I know you.>

Lairael herself yawned, this one wide and long. Her hand flew up to cover her mouth. When she was through, she answered. <Lairael, daughter of. . .> she paused. What was her mother's name? It had been so long. . . she gave another yawn instead.

Ithilwen smiled. <Ithilwen,> she said. <Mae govannen!> She smiled. <Have I seen you around before? I don't recognize you.>

<Aiya,> Lairael said, giving a small smile as she unfolded her leg, letting it hang down with the other. <I live in Lothlorien, and I'm only here for another year or so.>

Ithilwen smiled. <Ah, okay,> she said. <Welcome! Do you have a place to stay? Need a tour around Rivendell?>

Lairael shook her head. <No thank you. I am staying with a friend, and I'm sure that I know my way around well enough. Although company would be nice. . .?>

Ithilwen nodded. "Of course!" she said.

And that was how the day was spent, in a library not reading, but talking with a new aquiantance.
