She smiled, "We didn't talk about this...last time," she said, trying to think of how to word this, "But we need to talk about..." she paused, thinking. "About the differences in our background," she winced, "No, that sounds bad," she sighed.

He looked at her, confused. "I don't understand," he said. "Our backgrounds are different, it's true, but what does that have to do with our son or daughter?"

Alya sighed, "Well, the Noldor take naming the child very seriuously." she told him.

Landion's eyebrows went up. "Oh?" he said. "How seriously?"

She chuckled, "Don't bring it up in front of my parents," she laughed, "Some take it more seriously then others. My parents probably couln't be more into it." she rolled her eyes.

Landion sighed. "What are the differences in the two?" he asked, nervous.

Alya laughed, "Well...There are three forms of true Noldorin names: the father-name, the mother-name and the chosen-name." she told him. "The father-name is given to our child, by you soon after his or her birth. It is usually your name with a prefix. Your to announce it at Essecarmë, or naming ceremony." she took a deep breath. "Then there is the mother-name. I give this one usually sometime later. It is usually based on personality or apperance. Do I need to slow done? It's a lot to take in," she asked him.

He listened to the words flow by like a river, not understanding a single one. "Umm . . . could you rephrase that?" he asked.

Alya laughed, "Um.." she thought of how to rephrase it. "When our child is born, you give it a name, then announce it at a celebration. Then later I name it based on personality traits, or apperance." she said, hoping that helped.

He thought about that. Landion had never been accused of being too bright! But he could understand the rephrased version. "Okay," he said. "That's fine."

She nodded, then continued, "Then there is the last name, the chosen-name," she told him. "This is where the child chooses a name for his or her self. This is done in a ceremony called the Essecilmë, which mean name choosing. It's not on any set date, but usually occurs in the tenth year of the child, when it can form words and sounds," she told him.

He nodded. "So, the child has three names?" he asked, wondering how he was going to keep up with them all.

She smiled, he got it. "Yes, three names. Do you have any questions? It's a long detailed subject. That's why you should never bring it up in front of my parents. The might start talking about all the stuff you don't need to worry about." she laughed.

He shook his head. "No questions," he said, happily. He could handle this!

She smiled, "Good dear, I'm glad you got it," she said, taking a bit of her food.
