He nodded. "And she was to Naru," he whispered and looked down. "I shouldn't be putting so much on your shoulders, my son," he whispered and looked down at him. "But you're so mature, it scares me."

Alagos hung his head. "Thank you, Ada," he said, but the words were bitter. He did not like to be reminded of his broken promise to his mother and sister. And calling him by his childhood name only served to reinforce that.

Laur looked up from where she was talking to Nimmir. "Ada," she said. "Aunt asked if she can stay with us for awhile."

Laur smiled at her aunt. "Yay!" she said. Whereas Alagos had done some maturing, their recent experience had actually made Laur revert a bit.

Nimmir nodded and held her gently. "Come on... we'll get you a bath..." Nimmir needed someone to baby. And Laur had been dependent on her mother. She felt needed.
