Before LotR
Ithilwen pretended to sleep as Glauron got up to make his way to work. Today was their third wedding anniversary, but she hadn't said anything about it to Glauron. Instead, she watched as he left, then hurried off to her workroom. She had something special in mind for him. She wondered if he had remembered.

Glauron smiled as he finished the finishing touches on the new circelet. The stars were hung on delicate wires they would hang around her ears, and the moon above her forehead, the only thing that looked like the simple one he had made her when they were courting. This one was elaborte, and beautiful.
The rings for the twins were done. Gold for Laur, both of her names engraved on it, and room for the one she chose, and the same for Alagos.

She smiled and pulled out the jerkin she had been working on. Nothing simple about this! Delicate leaves ran up and down the collar and chest. The cloth itself was of the finest quality, and his favorite shade of blue. And the sleeves had a vine pattern embroidered around the hem. She smiled at it. Almost finished!

"When you're done you're coming with me," Nimmir said, a broad smile on her face. She had gotten Arewen to watch all of the children, twins and Naru. She would let the princess deal with them, give them both a day off.
"No arguing..."

Ithilwen looked up from her sewing. "Coming with you?" she asked. "I have a lot to do around here, Nimmir!" She didn't mention the anniversary -- Glauron seemed to want it to be private. Let them keep it that way. She suddenly realized about the children. "And where are the babies?"

"With Arewen," she said with a sly smile. "Well I believe, Elrond said he would take Naru, but," she shrugged and smiled.
"And you do not have a lot to do, you have servants! Come, we're going for a walk."

She shook her head. "But . . ." But she was forced to, anyway, when Nimmir grabbed her arm and started dragging her toward the door. "Fine!" she said, pretending to sulk. But some fresh air sounded good.

"Ithilwen!" she smiled and twirled around, her same carefree self. She had gone back five years, carefree, happy, and singing at the top of her lungs.
"Sing with me, Sister, sing..."

She joined in:
The stars are far brighter Than gems without measure, The moon is far whiter Than silver in treasure: The fire is more shining On hearth in the gloaming Than Bold won by mining, So why go a-roaming? O! Tra-la-la-lally Come back to the Valley.
She, too, had gone back years. She felt just as she had after her wedding, the blushing, carefree bride to a blacksmith. Her scars were forgotten -- she was Ithilwen, adopted daughter to Elrond, and wife of Glauron. She sang at the top of her lungs, and went where Nimmir led.

Nimmir sat at the top of the waterfall, sitting in the shallows, feet getting wet, dress dry on the shore. "It's good to be here," she whisepred.
'O! Tra-la-la-lally, Here in the Valley!" She laughed and splashed her sister. She glaced at her brother's house, waiting for the sign that she could bring her back.
Meanwhile Glauron was hammering away, gently, and adding details. "Where is that one?" he asked, in reference to his apprentice.

Another apprentice looked up. "He has the day off," he informed Glauron.
Ithilwen was splashing Nimmir back. "That's cold!" she complained, shrieking in fake anger. But she couldn't hide the smile that was spread from ear to ear!
She noticed her friend's split attention. "Nimmir, what's going on?" she asked.

"Absolulty nothing, Dear Heart," she said , hiding her sly smile. "I just have Cook making something very good for dinner..." she looked away, humming to herself.
"No he doesn't," Glauron shook his head. "He always works Tuesdays... and I need to get off early today..."

The apprentice looked up. "But, he said he was!" he said. "That's odd . . . and I'm sorry about today. Perhaps you can do it tomorrow? He'll be there then . . ."
Ithilwen looked up at Nimmir. She had begun to suspect that something was up. "Why is Cook making something good for dinner?" she asked. Honeslty, Nimmir was acting so odd . . .

"Because," Nimmir said with a smile and shrugged. "Becuase I asked him too, honestly, I don't care if so much fruit is good for me." She smiled, but inwardly she was wincing.
Glauron sighed. "He needs to be here. When I leave, he's the only one who knows how to finish this handle."

The apprentice looked at the handle. "I'm sorry sir," he said. "Why did you want to get off early today? Perhaps you can do whatever you need to do tomorrow, and work on the sword today?"
Ithilwen was partially satisfied with her friend's answer. She, too, was getting rather tired of fruit . . . oh well. "By winter, we'll be crying for more fruit, you know," she reminded her friend. "And it helps your digestive system."
