Elrond looked back down at his patient. "A week before you can leave that bed," he pronounced. "Even after that . . . you should take it easy."

Mariana sighed "Alright" Elrond began to pack up his herbs when a brown and grey hawk flew in the open window and landed next to Mariana. "Daedalus [cunning] I wondered when you would come." Mariana said as she stroked the hawks feathers.
(((OOC: I hope it's ok that Mariana has a pet hawk. If not I'll edit my post.)))

Both Elrond and Ithilwen raised an eyebrow at the appearance of the bird. "A hawk?" Ithilwen asked Mariana. "Where (and how) did you get him?"

The hawk ran it's head against Mariana's cheek "I found him as a baby in Mirkwood. He must have fallen out of a tree. So I raised him and he's been very loyal to me ever sense. He warns me about various creatures or changes taking place in the forest." Mariana smoothed the feethers on the hawk's head and the hawk nipped her finger out of affection.

Ithilwen nodded. "Very useful," she said. "May I pet him?" She had never been so close to anything bigger than a dove before!

Mariana nodded. She offered her arm to Daedalus who in turn climbed onto it. Mariana held him toward Ithilwen. "He won't hurt you. Daedalus is quite gentle"

Ithilwen put her hand out to stroke the bird, tentatively at first, but gaining confidence as she saw the truthfulness of Mariana's claim. She stroked his head, and giggled. Unfortunately, it started the bird, who bobbed his head. Which, in turn, startled Ithilwen. She pulled her hand back with a gasp.

Mariana laughed "Ithilwen you are too uptight" Elrond had finished getting his things together. "Well I shall leave you two and see you tommorow" Mariana nodded "Thank you Elrond" She said without thinking. "I mean Lord Elrond. Sorry"

He laughed. "It is fine," he said. "Just get some rest." He looked pointedly at Ithilwen as he said so, who promptly stuck her tongue out at him. He closed his eyes and shook his head sadly, then left.

Mariana rolled her eyes. She sent Daedalus over to Ithilwen and he landed on her shoulder. "Don't be frightend just relax, he won't hurt you." Mariana laughed at Ithilwen's lack of experience with animals.

Ithilwen tensed her shoulder under the bird's unfamiliar weight, then again tentatively reached out to stroke his head feathers. He bobbed his head in pleasure, and she began to do as her friend bidded, relaxing her body.

Mariana smiled "Told ya" She shifted in the bed clenching her teeth as she did so. This was going to take some getting used to.

Ithilwen saw her friend move, and wince in pain. "Don't move so much," she advised. "And never onto that side." She returned all her attention to the hawk still perched on her shoulder.

Mariana stopped moving and sighed "I hate being helpless" She then smiled at Ithilwen as Daedalus took a piece of her hair in his mouth. "I think he likes you"

For some reason, the gesture touched her. She watched, fascinated, as the powerful bird played with her silver hair, twirling it around and around in his beak, until . . .
Ithilwen jumped, gasping at the sudden pain from her scalp. Daedalus, not understanding his perch's sudden distress, opened his beak and gave a startled avian battle cry, and almost took wing.
