He nodded. "I was, she's very helpful. Most apprectices don't even want to fetch me a hammer, and she's always waiting to do something."

Ithilwen nodded, agreeing. She had never noticed the looks the girl gave her husband . . . or herself. "I should come by more often," she said. If anything, today had reinforced on her mind how quickly life could change. "Oh, Glauron, I don't spend enough time with you!" She embraced him, thinking about what she would do if he woke vomiting and bleeding . . . and never recovered.

"We'll spend some time together tomorrow," he whispered and kissed her. "Tomorrow, I'm free, all day..." he held her close. He stopped talking and kissed her ears singing softly to her.

She nodded. "Tomorrow," she agreed. Then she was quiet, listening to him sing, and being comforted by it. A faint smile touched her lips -- her first since that morning.

Ithilwen sighed, then tried to be chipper. "Let's have dinner now, shall we?" she asked. "Nice and quiet." And together.

Ithilwen nodded, too. "I'll make sure everything's ready," she whispered back, heading for the kitchen. But then she passed a wine bottle and looked at it. What would have happened if she didn't knock the glass down? What would have happened to her? She shivered, and put the bottle in the cabinet, out of sight.

He smiled at Alagos. "Come on," he whispered and ran his finger's through his son's hair. He liked the blonde streaks in the dark black. "You're mother is waiting."
"But I'm not hungry!" Laur rolled her eyes and walked out of the room to help her mother.

Ithilwen greeted her children with a plastic smile. "How was your day with Aunt Nimmir?" she asked them, trying to appear chipper. She poured herself a glass of water for dinner, forgoing her normal wine.

Alagos pouted. Laur shook her head. "Good, Naru taught me how to draw a bow!" Alagos nodded and gave a smirk.
"And he broke Nimmir's harp."

Ithilwen shook her head. "I bet Nimmir wasn't too happy about that," she said. It was the right words, but very wooden. She was thinking of her sister. What was a harp, compared to a life?

"How's Auntie?" Alaya asked and looked at her mother. She could tell something was wrong. "I saw you rush away this morning."

Ithilwen thought fast. How much should they tell the children? "Your Aunt is fine," she said. "But . . . well . . . she got very sick."
