Ithilwen nodded. "That's good," she said. With a final look at Bilbo and Glauron, she got up. "If you don't think it too rude, Bilbo, I'm going for a small walk."

"Not at all," he said with a bow. "I think it's best I leave anyway... I need to meet up with a family member.... now where is that boy?" He walked away, and after a short while starting calling 'Frodo'.

Ithilwen was confused. "Frodo?" she said. "Wait, that's . . .!" She was interrupted by another Hobbit joining them, this one much younger.
"You called, Uncle?" this newcomer said, eyeing Ithilwen and Glauron questioningly.

Glauron smiled gently and nodded his welcome to the younger Hobbit. "Frodo," he smiled and looked to Bilbo. "Did you give him it yet?" he asked, smiling happily. 'It' meant Sting.

Ithilwen raised an eyebrow. Wonderful, they had a code and everything. "Give him what?" she asked, as Frodo nodded. "Yes, he did."

Glauron smiled broadly. "Beautiful isn't it? And very useful." He kissed Ithilwen's forehead. "A knife love... a very useful knife... I believe it is named Sting?"

Frodo nodded, surprised by the easy affection among the two Elves. He had always thought of them as sort of pompous and aloof, an opinion which Elrond had not helped at all! Now these two acted like an old married couple. "Yes, Sting," he said. "It was the sword my Uncle used when he took his trip to the Lonely Mountain."

"Did he tell you how it glows?" he asked, moving from Ithilwen slightly. He saw the look of shock on the young Hobbit's face but said nothing.
"When orcs are near?" Frodo asked and nodded. "Yes he did, it seems useful."

Ithilwen raised an eyebrow. "I wouldn't mind something like that," she said, thinking of all the times that would have been useful.

He sighed and looked over to her. "Believe me," he told her gently. "He needs it more than we do right now..."

Ithilwen shook her head. "I didn't mean it like that!" she said. "Just in the past!" She still didn't do much travelling.

"I know," he laughed gently. "I'm just saying, that's all."

Ithilwen smiled at her husband. "Well, then," she said, laughing. Bilbo, too, smiled. He was used to the intimacy shared between Elven couples.
Frodo shifted back and forth uneasily. What, exactly, did Elves view as proper and improper?

"How do you like Rivendell, Master Baggins?" he asked Frodo smiling gently. "Did you enjoy my sister's music last night? You're uncle wrote a beautiful song..." he smiled. Nimmir had asked him to join her last night. Of course he had.

"Of course, sir," Frodo said, forgetting the Elf's name. And his sister's. Although she had played very well . . .
