Ithilwen was confused. "How can it be evil itself?" she asked. "It's just a ring. Granted, a very powerful ring. But a Ring nonetheless. Aragorn will use Araundil for good, but in the wrong hands it can just as easily be used for evil. How is the One Ring any different?"

He sighed and looked at her. "The rings were given to their masters for this job... to use the one ring, someone has to have maliace and the will to dominate..." he shook his head. "No matter what, it will only do evil, other than that I know nothing."

"Oh," Ithilwen said, far from satisfied. But she'd let it be. For now. "So young Frodo has it now? Oh, and I saw Mithrandir come in a few days ago. He seemed . . . flustered. Do you know anything about that?"

"Saruman has betrayed us," was all he would say.

But Ithilwen had gone pale. "Saruman?" she said. "Glauron, Saruman?!" She had just put a very important piece of information together.

"It's alright," he whispered. "We still have Gandalf..." he held her close. "I promise loosing one wizard won't do anything to Rivendell..."

Ithilwen shook her head. "No, Glauron, that's not it!" she said. "Although Saruman going bad is not a good thing at all. I just remembered." Her time in Isenguard was coming back to her. "He was the Master," she whispered to him.

He blinked and looked at her. "He did this to you?" he whispered and gently touched the fading scar on her left eye. He was shaking now and held her close, kissing her forehead.

Ithilwen didn't say anything, just nodded.

He rocked her back and forth. He knew that silence was best. One should know his own wife after nearly thirty years of marriage.

Finally, she stirred in his arms. "I'm sorry," she said. "He drugged me to forget. Knowing that he had gone bad . . . I remembered everything." She smiled for him, to show him she was alright. That was over 25 years ago!

"Alright," he whispered and touched her face. "As long as you're alright..." Glauron kissed her forehead. "You haven't cried about this in years... I don't like seeing you cry."

Ithilwen smiled. "I know," she said. "And I'm sorry." She looked up. "Where are the twins?" she asked, changing the subject.

"With Naru," he said with a small frown. He liked the boy, but was a little wary of him. True, he was his sister's son, but he was still half orc. The orc he killed and took the corspe off of his sister.

Ithilwen nodded, hoping Agalos was behaving himself. He and Naru were like oil and water, and poor Laur was often called on to mediate.
But then Ithilwen remembered something else. "Glauron?" she said, uncertainly. "When I was . . . with Finnar, I . . . spent some time with the Witch King of Agmar. And he had a few questions." She figited, both remembering what had to be the worse time in her entire long life, and also knowing Glauron wasn't going to like what had happened.
