Glauron looked down at her, his jaw dropping. "Are... are you sure?" he then shook his head, knowing that she was. "What did he ask?" he whisepred and held her close.

Ithilwen snorted. "Of course I'm sure," she said. "Have you seen my back? And . . . he wanted to know about Rivendell's defenses." She bowed her head.

"I've seen your back," he nodded and kissed her cheek. "And you didn't know anything about our defenses, not anything that he didn't already know."

Ithilwen looked at her husband. "Glauron, I love you, but sometimes you underestimate me. I have lived here a very long time. Female I may be, but I hear things, and I can put two and two together. I know quite a bit about Rivendell's defenses." She gestured to the river. "For example, I know about how the water rises when Elrond needs it to. I know he has complete control over the river."

"I'm sorry, but I do..." he looked down. "That and I'm praying you did not give anything away... I would like to this of this place as a safe haven."

Ithilwen shuddered. "I do, too," she said. "And I'm sorry. Really, I am! But I couldn't help it . . ."

Ithilwen was startled. "Elrond!" she said. "No, Glauron! I could never face him again, knowing how much I told the Witch King!"

"You have to," he whispered. "And it wasn't on your own free will... he'll forgive you."

She nodded, sniffling. A tear fell from her good eye (the dead one would never cry again). "Alright," she said. Glauron talked sense -- Elrond needed to know. That didn't mean it was going to be easy. "Shall we tell him now or later?"

"It's up to you..." he told her. "I think that it should be soon... considering the ring is here."

Ithilwen nodded. "We'll tell Elrond later, please?" she said. She was stalling, and she knew it!
But that wasn't to be. "Tell me what?" a voice said behind them. Ithilwen jumped guiltily, like she had been caught talking about someone behind their back. "Umm . . . nothing," she bluffed, with as innocent an expression as possible.

Glauron coughed and looked at her, a slightly stern look. "Ithilwen," he whispered. "Tell him..."

Ithilwen bowed her head. This was not going to be easy! "Glauron was telling me about Saruman going bad, and I just realized that that was who the Master was that had me blinded and branded," she whispered.

Elrond's face paled and he closed his eys for a moment and then looked at her. Glauron patted her back. "And..."
