Ithilwen went to Finnar's room, stopping before entering. The woman's impending death weighed heavy on her mind. With a sigh, she pushed the door open. "Yes, Finnar?" she asked. Still, after all this time, and even sick, the sight of her former mistress made her heart beat faster.

Finnar rolled her eyes open, afraid of what Ithilwen might think of her appearance. "Hello Ithilwen...I guess Din delivered you the news..." she said with a smile. "Seventey years, and it comes to this..."

Ithilwen smiled at the withered-up old woman who used to be so full of life. "She did not. Only said that you wanted to see me."

"Oh..." Finnar sighed, playing with her grey hair. She looked out the window. It was raining. "Poor thing...she is all depressed. Not understanding how we could both be seventey, and she looks young, while I...well, I'm an old hag." She said with a chuckle. "Oh well, I hope your children are alright?"

Ithilwen smiled to herself. "Then you have found out about the twins?" she asked. When Finnar had first come to Rivendell, she had concealed the fact that she had had twins. It didn't seem to matter -- she had found out anyway.
She ignored Finnar's first statement.

"Yes..." Finnar said, starting to cough. "Little tart can't keep her mouth shut!" She laughed, which started to form into a coughing fit. "I'm gonna cough up a lung if this coninues! Oh yes. You might want to hear this. Ro-hans finally got married, and I'm a grandmother...I pity the children..."

Ithilwen rose her eyebrows. "Ro-hans . . . married?!" she said, surprised. "I pity the woman . . . so, you're a grandmother, huh? Congratulations!"

"Yeah...Thier half-breeds. The mother is a goblin..." Finnar explained, still coughing out a lung.

Ithilwen had to laugh at that. "A goblin, huh?" she said. She was ignoring Finnar's coughing -- she wouldn't admit to herself how bad it was getting. She had come to love this woman that she had once loathed.

Finnar was now coughing so bad, she was having a difficult time breathing.

Ithilwen finally did something. "Finnar?" she said. Seeing the woman's distress, she gently began to thump her on the back. "Would you like a glass of water?" she asked.

Finnar nodded. Once Ithilwen got her the glass of water, she gulped it down in one sip. "Ahhh...that hits the spot." Finnar sighed. Her voice had not changed at all during the past twentey years.

Ithilwen smiled, then kneeled down beside where the old woman was sitting, to be eye-level with her. "Finnar, what did you call me in here to tell me?"

"I just didn't want to go by myself." Finnar reasoned. When she saw the expression on Ithilwen's face, she realised what they culd have meant. "I mean, when I die --which will most likley be tonight-- I want somebody beside me. Not Din...she..." Finnar couldn't finish off her scentence.

Ithilwen was instantly by her former Mistress' side. "No, Finnar, you don't have to do this!" she said. "You don't have to die tonight! Look, I'll get Elrond -- he'll know what to do!" She surprised even herself by whiping a tear from her good eye. The dead one couldn't cry.
